I teach students of all levels and ages 5 and up. I primarily teach proper piano technique, jazz, improvisation, music theory, sight reading, and classical piano repertoire. The goal is to help the student develop an advanced holistic skill set that allows them to improvise, play the songs they love, compose, and eventually to meet the demands placed upon the modern day professional musician. Bud Powell, Art Tatum, Charlie Parker, and many more masters of the "American Idiom," as Duke Ellington called it, are a central focus of study.
My students have be accepted to prestigious music schools such as the New School in New York City.
Students are expected to meet once a week and have access to a piano or keyboard with which they can practice every day. Students would be expected to get a notebook of manuscript paper and a metronome, work hard, have fun, and purchase a few books over time.
Students of all levels are welcome. The rate is $50/hour teaching from my home, $70/hour traveling to students in San Francisco.
I look forward to hearing from you!
